Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky to make RX2e debut

  • The Swede will make her debut in this category in the first race in Hell, Norway.
  • Åhlin-Kottulinsky will have to adapt quickly to the ZEROID X1.
  • She has been testing with the car ahead of the start of the season.

June 6th 2023, Barcelona – Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky will be joining the Championship for, at least, three rounds: the one in Hell, Norway; Höljes, Sweden; and Lydden Hill, in UK. Mikaela will be racing with Team E, joining forces with team-mate Nils Andersson. “When the possibility arised to test the RX2e in Calafat earlier this year there was no doubt that I wanted to give it a go! Having done some RX events last year I felt the urge to come back to do more, and then the plan of Team E took place earlier this year”, Mikaela states. “For me this is a great way to get more driving experience, and goal is to step by step learn the electric ZEROID X1, the RX2e Championship and rallycross in general”, she adds.

Team E is a newly started team, with focus on Equality, Engagement and Electrification. Having a female driver and male driver in the team, with the goal to inspire to a sustainable sport, and more diversity within motorsport. Mikaela will be stepping into the team with Nils Andersson, last year’s Championship bronze medallist in the series.

The Swede driver has joined the first-ever FIA electric Rallycross Championship, having seen the success of the series. Åhlin-Kottulinsky has more than enough talent to hit the ground running in the FIA World Rallycross Championship support class. She will have to adapt quickly to a brand-new challenge when she makes her debut in the RX2e Championship. “I believe that RX2e is a great step into professional rallycross, and a great pathway to the next level. Running at the same weekends as the RX1e Championship, with top level drivers in the series there is no better place to learn and develop rallycross skills”, Mikaela expresses.

Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky has been the first woman to achieve a pole and win a race in the Scandinavia Touring Car Championship, where she raced from 2017 until 2021, before stepping into Extreme E. In the first season in Extreme E she achieved a third place overall at the end of the Championship, and last season she improved the position and placed second in overall standings. This year, with four rounds done, Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky is currently in third position in the standings, racing for Rosberg X Racing together with Johan Kristoffersson.

Ahead of the RX2e season, the Swede has tested with the ZEROID X1 in Calafat to find the pace and to learn how to adapt to the car to get the maximum out of it. “I had a great testing day at Calafat, and great team around me supporting me to gain more and more speed on every outing. It was a natural start of Team E as Nils was also on site, and I feel that we straight away had a good team work. Calafat is very much of a tarmac track which I have more experience in, I believe the other tracks will be more challenging for me. However, that’s why I’m here, to gain experience and drive as much as possible!”, Mikaela exclaims.

The new RX2e season will start at Hell, Norway on June 17th-18th. For more information about RX2e, please visit the official website at www.fia-rx2e.com
