May 5th 2023, Barcelona – Isak Sjökvist will join the RX2e grid for its third season. The Swede has already competed in this Championship in the inaugural season in 2021 and also last year, achieving very good results in both seasons. This year he will be a part of #YellowSquad Team, powered by Hansen Motorsport Team. Sjökvist described the opportunity to join the team as “a childhood dream come true” and praised their ability, passion, and experience in Rallycross.
In his first season in RX2e, he raced four out of five rounds and impressed everyone with his skills, quality, and ambition as a driver. In last year’s season, he scored one win -in the last race in Barcelona- and podiums in three other races, becoming the vice-champion. The Swede doesn’t shy away from expectations, and after last season, the goal for this year is clear: to win. Sjökvist, though, is prudent and acknowledges that this upcoming season is going to be a “tough challenge”, but he is also confident and believes that with the support by his team, #YellowSquad, he can get the help he needs to deliver.
Isak Sjökvist began his motorsport career in 2012 racing karts, and the Swede quickly progressed up the ranks to become a leading protagonist on the world karting and eventually ranked among the best 10 drivers in the world while he also placed among the top three competitors on the national scene. After eight years in karting, Sjökvist then made the switch off-road at the start of 2021 and entered the RallyX Nordic Supercar Lites category, in which he is also racing this year. After the first two rounds, the Swede stands fourth in the general standings.
Now, the Swede returns to race the third full FIA RX2e season. Isak for sure will use the experience he has from the two previous seasons to beat his rivals. During pre-season he said he has done a lot of changes in his training program and tried to drive “as many cars similar to Rallycross as possible”, although “as a racing driver you can’t get enough of driving”.
The first round of the Championship will be in Hell, Norway on June 17th-18th, so he will make the most of these weeks before the first race to “work even harder and get everything in place”, ready to deliver.
