Cooper Tires at the forefront of sustainable motorsport with RX2e partnership

The FIA RX2e Championship will benefit from the expertise of world-renowned tire manufacturer Cooper Tires when the inaugural season gets underway at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

The lights will go green on the first ever FIA electric rallycross championship next month (July 23-24), with the brand-new series promising to produce breath-taking action as a grid of identical lightweight, four wheel-drive cars go head-to-head.

Designed and developed by Spanish electro-mobility specialist QEV Technologies and Swedish rallycross powerhouse Olsbergs MSE, each RX2e car will be shod with the highest-quality purpose-made Cooper Tires manufactured to maximise the potential of the cutting-edge electric technology in a frenetic racing environment.

Founded in the United States in 1914, Cooper Tires has more than 100 years of experience in the tire industry and today offers a wide range of products for car, van, SUV/CUV and 4×4 applications. The company also has a proven track record supplying some of motorsport’s most popular categories from its dedicated facility in Melksham, England.

Earlier this year, Cooper Tire Europe reconfirmed its commitment as exclusive tire supplier to the high-profile FIA World Rallycross Championship and supporting RX2e series – marking the start of an innovative new era for the sport.

The dry weather ACB11 and RX Moulded Wet rubber used in both championships can operate at temperatures of up to 120°C and consistently deliver high performance levels across diverse gravel and tarmac surfaces, whatever the weather conditions.

With the 30kWh battery motor in the RX2e car capable of producing up to 510Nm torque, the ability to retain unparalleled grip levels under load is a key characteristic of Cooper Tires’ industry-leading product.

James Weekley, General Manager, Motorsport, Cooper Tire Europe, said, “We are excited to be part of the future of rallycross with the introduction of the all-electric RX2e class.

“RX2e’s new car generates 250kw of power (335bhp) and up to 510Nm of torque and we have worked hard to provide a tire that will showcase the vehicle’s full potential.

“As motorsport looks toward a more sustainable future with electric vehicles, Cooper is proud to be at the forefront of this with RX2e.”

Pere Gonzalez, Project Manager, FIA RX2e Championship, said: “We are delighted that Cooper Tires will be a key part of the first-ever FIA RX2e Championship. We have worked hard to develop an innovative, technologically-advanced car that will allow our drivers to fulfil their potential – and it is important that our tires also meet these high standards of production.

“Cooper Tires are vastly experienced in the motorsport arena, as well as in commercial motoring, and we are confident they are the right partner to supply rubber for our inaugural campaign.”

The 2021 FIA RX2e Championship will consist of five events around Europe this season – Nürburgring in Germany, Höljes in Sweden, Lohéac in France and Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium following on from the curtain-raiser in Barcelona.
